M&M's
Chapter sixteen
By Crystal
"Are we there yet?"
"Brash, for the love of God that is the fifth time this hour
you have asked! We're not any closer than we were two minutes ago
when you asked." Nick kept his eyes on the road but
scrunched his brows at my question.
"I'm hungry. Can you stop so I can eat?"
"Again?"
"Hey! Leave the pregnant lady alone! You should just be
grateful that the morning sickness period has passed."
"There are fast food places at the next exit. Decide what
you want."
"Yes sir, Commando Nick," I joked, folding my arms and
leaning back in the seat.
"Oh, Honey, I love it when you use endearing terms," he
smirked.
"Take me to Taco Bell" I decided. "I've got a
hankering for a seven layered burrito and some chalupas."
Nick pulled into the parking lot and parked the car. I took out
my wallet and looked at Nick. "Want anything?"
"Yeah, come here." He unbuckled his seat belt and
leaned into me. His lips softly kissed my cheek, his right hand
caressing the other cheek. "You look beautiful."
"You won't be saying that in a few months when I'm big and
ugly," I laughed.
"You'd be beautiful if you were wearing a potato sack."
"Sure Nick. Beautiful and itchy. I'll be right back." I
got out of the car and walked into the building. After ordering
my food, I waited by the drink fountain for my number to be
called. I looked around aimlessly and noticed a couple walking by
outside. A girl, not much older than me and a guy were walking
side by side, holding hands. She said something funny and her
lips curled into a satisfied smile as he laughed. Her eyes got
big and her smiled widened as her boyfriend picked her up and
twirled her around in the air before planting a big kiss on her.
Oh, to be in love like that. Must be nice.
"Twenty." My number. I grabbed my bag and headed out to
the car. I opened the door and sat in my seat, sighing as I
buckled the seatbelt.
"What's the sigh for? No seven layered buritos?"
"I got two of them."
"Then what's the deal?" I looked at Nick and sighed
again.
"Nick, can I see you outside for a minute?" He looked
around and shrugged his okay. I got out of the car, walked over
to his side and pinned him up against the car with my hands to
his shoulders. He opened his mouth to ask me what the hell my
problem was when I kissed him before he could.
After I pulled away I put my finger up to his lips to silence
him. He looked at me, his blue eyes quick and alert.
"Carpe diem, Nick." I removed my finger and smiled at
him.
"It's night time, Brash."
"Carpe nocturne then. Stay with me tonight, please?"
He hesitated. "Stay with you? Brash, you're not making any
sense."
"Well let me spell it out for you, Blondie. Come home with
me tonight, stay with me in my bed and, you know, do other
things. Like hold me and kiss me."
"Where is this coming from, Brash?"
"I just want to be with you, that's all. Please?"
"We both have work tomorrow and you're sick." I
scoffed. I was not sick!!
"I'm not sick with the flu, Nick, I'm having a baby. There's
a difference."
"You just had a miscarriage. Any other normal woman would
still be mourning over that loss."
"If I mourn my loss then I'll only blame myself. I don't
want to do that. There is a purpose for everything in life and
God makes things happen for a reason. I won't question Him on
this. And besides, since when are you turning me down for a
night? Remember this morning? When you were in bed with me and we
were holding each other."
Nick took my hands in his and held them up to his chin. "Is
horny in the expectant mother's job description?"
"I'm not horny! I'm sentimental. Besides, I just want to be
with you, hold you, kiss you. That's as far as it has to
go."
"This sure is a change for you."
I briefly kissed Nick again before leaning my face against his.
"Since when are you one to complain?"
"Hey, you guys, I really like this whole soap opera routine,
but if I wanted to see 'The Young and the Restless' I'd be
watching it right now, okay?" Nick and I turned to look at
Sass, who was sticking her head out the window. "And
besides, you guys are practically making out in the parking lot.
Eww. And stop it with the sex talk. We have children
present."
I looked back up at Nick and dragged him a few feet away from the
car so that Sass couldn't eavesdrop on us. "Nick?"
"I feel like I should be paying rent. I'm at your house way
too much."
"Well then the first chance we get we'll go to your house.
Deal?"
"You are nuts, Brash. You know that, right?"
"I told you, all the DeLaCruz's are insane."
"We are not!" defended Sass. So much for privacy.
